If you or someone you love is struggling with a severe mental health disorder, inpatient psychiatric treatment may be the best option. Inpatient psychiatric treatment is the most intensive level of treatment that serves as stabilization for individuals suffering from mental health and or co-occurring addictive disorders.
Inpatient psychiatric treatment is 24-hour care in a safe and secure facility, making it best for patients with mental health issues who require constant monitoring. Inpatient treatment protocols are highly structured and emphasize education.
Some of the symptoms that may require inpatient psychiatric treatment for stabilization are as follows:
Through evidence-based treatment modalities, patients learn new life skills and coping mechanisms that lead to new thinking patterns and healthier lifestyles. Our multidisciplinary team consists of:
Your loved one will be assessed by a psychiatrist that specializes in understanding the treatment needs of our senior population. Current emotional, functional, and medication needs will be evaluated and addressed during the inpatient stay.
Our team will work with you and your loved one to establish a plan of care that is both comprehensive and effective. We do this on a one-on-one basis, as well as in a treatment team setting. After our initial assessment, we will establish both short and long-term goals that support both the ongoing behavioral health needs and the individual patient and family preferences and goals.
Registered Nurses are available 24/7 to provide support, education, and structure to the unit population. They also monitor the medication and care and supervise treatment programming.
Our medical staff includes both psychiatry and internal medicine physicians with geriatric specialty training. They work together to provide for the physical and behavioral needs of your loved one. After conducting a comprehensive assessment, the best medication to treat the presenting symptoms will be prescribed. Education and monitoring related to medications are provided by our physicians, on-site pharmacists, and RNs.
Assessments are conducted several times a day to ensure that symptoms and behaviors are managed with the most current information and stats. The individual and their families are educated on their symptoms and how to manage them as well.
Our team at each location provides three nutritious meals a day as well as 3 scheduled snacks. A registered dietitian will evaluate special dietary restrictions and needs to ensure ongoing nutritional support.
Over 5 hours of therapeutic treatment and recreation therapy is scheduled daily. Our team focuses on increasing coping skills, reducing behaviors that limit socialization and exercise and recreation therapy to maintain the highest level of patient functioning.
Groups are conducted to increase physical endurance and maintain active involvement while in our hospital. Weather permitting, we utilize our handicap accessible outdoor courtyard for activities and exercise. Exercise is important for keeping the body and mind healthy.
Music, art therapy and other forms of expressive therapy are conducted on a biweekly basis. Expressive therapy helps to engage your loved ones in memories and feelings that support their journey to recovery.
We value and encourage feedback and participation from families, and other supportive individuals, to maintain social connections and supports
Our care coordinators work with family preferences and referring facilities to ensure a comprehensive and supportive discharge plan. Planning takes into consideration patient and family preferences as well as the treatment needs of the individual. For more information, ask to speak to one of our care coordinators.
The duration of your stay is determined by your assessment. Depending on your doctor’s recommendation, your treatment could last a few days or several weeks.
Patients should feel comfortable during treatment and there are certain items that are suggested. We suggest bringing:

NewVista Healthcare offers a robust inpatient treatment program to help you or your loved one on the path to recovery. You are never alone in this journey, we are here every step of the way.
At NewVista Healthcare we believe proper medication management is paramount to our patients’ success. It’s easy for patients to make significant mistakes with their medications which is why we not only prescribe medication to treat presenting symptoms but provide education and monitoring related to any prescribed medications.
It’s important to manage medications effectively or medication errors can occur once treatment is over. Statistics show that every minute, up to three Americans call a poison control center because they have taken their medication incorrectly. Furthermore, data shows that mismanagement of medication is only increasing and that errors many times lead to hospitalization. For these reasons, we believe that teaching the necessary skills to manage medication effectively is important for our patients.
To support positive therapeutic outcomes, assessments are conducted three times a day to ensure that symptoms and behaviors are managed with the most current information and stats.

Intensive outpatient is different from PHP because it is less structured and less of a time commitment. Intensive outpatient treatment allows patients to transition back into normal life with the support of a therapeutic community and regularly scheduled outpatient treatment which keeps a level of accountability and the opportunity to address difficulties as they arise.
